Tournament Index is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the United States Golf Association (USGA) or The R&A. Our score is not a Handicap Index®

Tournament Index publishes a single calculated value of its own, the Fair Play Score (FPS): a 0–100 measure where higher is cleaner. The Fair Play Score is our own metric. It is not a Handicap Index®, it is not a substitute for one, and it is never presented as one.

A member's Handicap Index® is the official value issued under the World Handicap System™ and governed by the USGA and The R&A. Where our reports recommend an adjustment to a member's Handicap Index®, that recommendation is exactly that: a recommendation. The club's Handicap Committee decides whether to apply it, with notice to the member, an opportunity to respond, and recourse to appeal, under Rule 7.1a of the Rules of Handicapping.

Why we use these terms

References to the World Handicap System™, to the Rules of Handicapping, and to specific rules are made for identification and compatibility only. They describe what our tool works with and the basis for what it recommends. They do not imply that the USGA or The R&A endorse, sponsor, certify, or are otherwise associated with Tournament Index.

Third-party marks

Third-party trademarks are the property of their respective owners. Any comparison we publish is based on those owners' own publicly available materials, and is made for the purpose of honest comparative reference.
