What is a Fair Play Score?
The Fair Play Score (FPS) is a 0-100 measure of how well a member's Handicap Index® matches their demonstrated play, built from posted rounds, Handicap Index® history, and tournament results. High scores mean the handicap tracks real ability; lower scores land in Monitor, Flagged, or Adjusted review bands, with every signal cited to the Rules of Handicapping.
How does Tournament Index detect sandbagging?
Sandbagging is deliberately keeping a Handicap Index® higher than your true ability - by posting selectively, padding casual scores, or underperforming outside competition - to gain extra strokes in net events. Tournament Index scores the statistical fingerprints: tournament results that consistently beat casual play, missed postings before events, and a Handicap Index® that drifts up ahead of big tournaments.
Does Tournament Index accuse members of cheating?
No. It surfaces records that warrant a human look and shows exactly why, with every flag tied to a plain-English reason and the underlying number. Your committee makes every decision. It is a review, not an accusation.
Where does our data come from?

Is a proposed Handicap Index® adjustment an automatic change?
No. It is a recommendation the club applies, not a change we make. A proposed adjustment is a Rule 7.1a reset recommendation toward demonstrated ability, anchored to the evidence and to the member's Low Handicap Index™ (Rule 5.7). The committee decides, with notice to the member, an opportunity to respond, and recourse to appeal.
Can the committee get help with the Rules of Handicapping?
Yes. An in-app guidance assistant answers handicap questions grounded in the WHS Rules of Handicapping and cites the relevant rule, alongside a plain-language knowledge base. It is educational guidance, not an official ruling.
Does it help us communicate with members?
Yes. Ready-to-send, rules-compliant email templates cover reviews, proposed adjustments, posting reminders, and outcomes. Each gives the member notice, invites a response, and preserves the right to appeal.
Can we tune the model to our club?
Yes. Thresholds and bands are configurable, so a committee can adjust how strict the score is and where the review lines fall without touching any logic.
Can we use Tournament Index to monitor handicaps year-round?
Yes. It works as continuous handicap monitoring software: every member's Handicap Index®, posting behavior, and tournament results are re-scored as new data comes in, so the committee sees drift early instead of after the invitational.
Is thin data going to over-flag our newer members?
No. The score down-weights members with few rounds or events, pulling them toward neutral, and confidence is shown alongside every result so nobody is flagged on a handful of cards.
Can another club ever see our data?
No. Tenant isolation is enforced by Postgres row-level security and a private, per-club storage bucket, at the database and file layers, not just the interface. Integration keys are kept in an encrypted vault, never in the app database.
How much does Tournament Index cost?
Starter is free: run a full season of scores through the Fair Play Score engine and get your first report at no cost. Committee is $200 per month, billed annually ($2,400/year), for ongoing oversight of every member. Governor adds custom thresholds, advanced analytics, and long-term trend analysis, and is custom-priced. Billing is annual, by bank transfer (ACH) or card.
